Collection: Dobinsons Suspension — 4Runner & Hilux Surf

Dobinsons lift kits, shocks, springs and driveline gear for the Toyota Hilux Surf and 4Runner — covering 1st Gen through 4th Gen. Dobinsons has earned its reputation for a reason: their gear is the stuff serious Surf and 4Runner builds rely on across NZ and Australia. From a humble 2" rear coil swap to a full pre-assembled MRA front lift with adjustable damping, we stock the Dobinsons range that actually fits these trucks.

Fitment

Dobinsons makes Hilux Surf / 4Runner suspension across the whole platform — 1st Gen (LN60/YN60, 84–88), 2nd Gen (N130, 89–95, including KZN130/LN130/VZN130), 3rd Gen (N180/N185, 96–02, KZN185/RZN185/VZN185) and 4th Gen (N210, 03–09). Each product page lists the exact chassis code window so you don't end up with springs for the wrong front end.

What's In This Collection

Full lift kits (2", 3", IMS, MRA, Gas) for every generation; front and rear coil springs in standard and heavy-duty rates; MRA adjustable monotube shocks; IMS twin-tube shocks; heavy-duty torsion bars for the 2nd Gen IFS; pre-assembled front lift struts that bolt in without a coil compressor; steering dampers; and rear-only lift kits for tow setups. If you're running heavier loads — drawer system, dual battery, full roof platform — talk to us about matching spring rates before you order.

Why Choose Surf Syndicate

We're an NZ Dobinsons stockist that actually drives these trucks. Every Dobinsons kit on this page has been picked because it works on real Surf / 4Runner builds, not just because it's in the catalogue. We ship across New Zealand fast, and if you're not sure between Gas, IMS and MRA we'll talk you through the trade-offs before you spend the money.

FAQ

What's the difference between Gas, IMS and MRA? Gas is Dobinsons' standard twin-tube — great for road and light off-road. IMS is twin-tube with an internal floating piston — better heat management on corrugations. MRA is a remote-reservoir monotube with adjustable damping — top of the range for serious touring and off-road. Each step up adds capability (and cost).

Will a 2" lift need a diff drop? On the 3rd Gen IFS, a 2" lift is usually fine on factory geometry but a diff drop is recommended above 2" to bring the front diff back into spec. We carry diff drop kits in the 4WD Drivetrain collection.

Are the pre-assembled front lifts harder or easier to fit? Easier. No coil compressor required, no rebuild — just unbolt the factory strut and bolt the new one in. Worth the extra money if you're DIY-ing the install.
