Collection: 3rd Gen Hilux Surf & 4Runner Gear Knobs (96–02)

Gear knobs, shifter boots and shift bezels for the 3rd Gen Hilux Surf / 4Runner (N180/N185, 1996–2002). The factory shift knob on these trucks is one of the first things to wear — the leather peels, the plastic crown cracks, and the badge fades. A leather replacement (or a universal billet extension) is the cheapest interior fix that makes the truck feel new again.

Fitment

Every gear knob on this page is direct-fit for the 3rd Gen Hilux Surf / 4Runner, 1996–2002. Thread pitch on Toyota manual shifters of this era is M12x1.25. Auto shifters use a snap-on or grub-screw mount — listings call out which fits which transmission.

What's In This Collection

Leather gear knobs (manual, M12x1.25, multiple finishes), universal gear stick extensions (taller throw, more leverage for off-road), and gear stick extensions for the early 1st/2nd/3rd Gen Flatout Offroad steering shaft setups. Shifter boots and bezels round it out.

Why Choose Surf Syndicate

Generic knobs work, but a 3rd Gen-fit leather knob in the right thread feels and looks 10x better. Every knob on this page has been screwed onto a real 3rd Gen manual to confirm the thread. NZ shipping.

FAQ

Will it fit my auto? The leather knobs in this collection are M12x1.25 manual. Auto knobs use a different mount — let us know your transmission and we'll point you to the right kit (or source one).

What's a gear stick extension? A taller knob/shaft that raises the shift lever for easier reach in lifted trucks, or a more comfortable shift angle on stock trucks. Bolts on between the original lever and the knob.

Will the OEM shifter boot still fit a new knob? Usually yes — the boot fixes to the dash, not the knob. New knobs unscrew and screw on independently.
