The new lid is made for the 1996 to 1998 console and comes with its own latch and hinge fitted, so on those trucks it's a ten minute swap with a Phillips screwdriver. On a 1999 to 2002 truck, if you want to keep the extra storage cubby inside the lid, there's one extra step, so check which you have first.
Before you start: which console do you have?
| Your truck | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1996 to 1998 | Fits straight in. Follow the steps below. |
| 1999 to 2002, and you want to keep the storage cubby inside the lid | Swap your old lid's frame into the new lid first. Read 99-02 trucks: keeping the cubby before you start. |
Fitting it, step by step
Step 1: Open the lid and find the hinge screws
Open the console lid fully. The hinge is held to the console base by Phillips head screws along the back edge.
Step 2: Remove the old lid
Hold the lid so it doesn't drop, undo the hinge screws and lift the old lid off. Keep the screws, as they hold the new lid on.
Step 3: Fit the new lid
Line the new lid's hinge up with the screw holes on the console base and put the screws back in. Leave them slightly loose for now.
Step 4: Line it up and tighten
Close the lid and check it sits square on the console and the latch clicks shut. Shift it slightly if you need to, then open it and tighten the screws.
Step 5: Check it
Open and close it a few times. It should latch every time and sit evenly on both rubber stoppers.
99-02 trucks: keeping the cubby
The 1999 to 2002 lid has an extra storage cubby built into its frame. The new lid is built on the 96-98 frame, so to keep the cubby you move your factory frame across and keep the new upholstered section on top.
- Remove the old lid from the console (Steps 1 and 2 above).
- Separate the upholstered top from the frame on both the old lid and the new lid, keeping all the screws.
- Fit the new upholstered top onto your factory 99-02 frame.
- Fit the finished lid back to the console (Steps 3 to 5 above).
If the lid won't latch
- Check the rubber stoppers. There should be a stopper on each side for the lid to sit on. If one is missing or has fallen off, the lid sits unevenly and won't latch.
- Adjust the hinge position. Loosen the hinge screws a little, move the lid until the latch lines up and clicks shut, then tighten the screws again.

Common questions
Will it fit a 2nd Gen or 4th Gen?
No. Those consoles are a different shape. This lid is made for the 3rd Gen only.
Which colour matches my interior?
Grey (also called Moon Mist) or Oak (also called Tan). Match it to your dash and door cards.
Do I need my old lid?
Only on a 99-02 truck where you want to keep the cubby, as you'll reuse its frame. On a 96-98 the new lid fits straight in.
